Macon Sees Job Growth in February, Unemployment Rate at 4.3%

The Georgia Department of Labor announced Thursday that Macon recorded an unemployment rate of 4.3 percent in February, up three-tenths over-the-month. A year ago, the rate was 4.0 percent.
“Jobs are growing, and so is Georgia’s future," said GDOL Interim Successor Louis DeBroux. "With regional job growth across Georgia in February and the state's unemployment rate holding steady at 3.6%—well below the national average—Georgia continues to prove itself as the #1 place where businesses and talent thrive."
The labor force in Macon decreased by 434 over-the-month and was down 749 over-the-year, totaling 96,637.
Macon finished the month with 92,452 employed residents, down 707 over-the-month and down 1,043 compared to the same time last year.
Macon ended February with 99,700 jobs, up 100 over-the-month but unchanged over-the-year.
In February, initial unemployment claims in Macon decreased by 66 over-the-month but were down 68 compared to last year, totaling 418.
