Macon-Bibb Celebrating CDBG Week, Organizations
Tuesday, April 22nd, 2025
Mayor Lester Miller, the Macon-Bibb County Board of Commissioners, and the Economic and Community Development Department (ECDD) will be joining other communities in celebrating National Community Development Block Grant Week (50 Years of Program Impact), April 21-25, 2025. Mayor Miller will present the annual proclamation to ECDD on Thursday, April 24, at 10:00 a.m. in Commission Chambers.
The Community Development Block Grant program is a federally funded program administered by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and helps build stronger and more resistant communities by serving to maintain quality of life and address critical needs within vulnerable populations through immediate and long-term services. The program has been one of the most important resources used by state and local governments to meet community development needs.
“Celebrating National Community Development Week and the Community Development Block Grant is a great chance to highlight the impact we have in our local community,” says Charlotte Woody, ECDD Assistant Director. “The impact of the CDBG program can last for a lifetime as many lives are changed because of the programs funded that are provided in the community.”
The Community Development Block Grant is accessible to all who meet the U.S. Housing and Urban Development (HUD) requirements. Public Services are provided by large and small agencies and private organizations in diverse settings.
Public service activities include crisis intervention (domestic violence), homeless services, case management, minor home repairs, family counseling, affordable housing, and youth mentoring programs, etc. Since April 2024 to present, Public Service funds have been used to serve 1584 individuals and their families. Housing funds have been used to serve 176 individuals and their families.
