Fort Valley State University has officially joined Internet2, a member-driven nonprofit that solves shared technology challenges and operates the U.S. national research and education network, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s commitment to advancing technology and innovation. This achievement makes FVSU the first public Historically Black College and University (HBCU) in Georgia to become an Internet2 member and the second HBCU overall in the state, following Clark Atlanta University. Additionally, FVSU is now one of five institutions within the University System of Georgia to be part of this community.

“Fort Valley State University is excited to join Internet2, which will enhance connectivity, foster collaboration and provide access to cutting-edge technologies,” said Ndidi Akuta, DScIT, FVSU chief information officer. “The collaboration aligns with FVSU’s commitment to top-tier education and groundbreaking research. We look forward to leveraging these resources to benefit our academic community.”

Internet2 is a nationwide, advanced technology consortium that connects universities, research institutions, government agencies, cultural organizations and industry leaders to support high-performance computing, data sharing, and collaboration on large-scale scientific projects. By connecting to the Internet2 network through Southern Crossroads (SOX), FVSU will have access to unparalleled technological resources, enabling its students and faculty to engage in transformative research and educational experiences.

FVSU’s membership in Internet2 aligns with its strategic goals of enhancing and improving technological experiences of students and the campus community. This new capability allows researchers to collaborate more efficiently with peer institutions, utilize vast amounts of data for advanced studies, and explore new frontiers in disciplines ranging from agriculture and cybersecurity to artificial intelligence.
