Downtown Macon restaurants are competing for the title of best fries during the Downtown Macon French Fry Fight on Wednesday, July 13 in honor of National Fry Day. Fourteen restaurants have developed creative culinary takes on the classic side.

“Creating events like the French Fry Fight are important to the vitality of downtown,” said Scott Mitchell, Main Street Macon’s marketing committee chair. “When we host bar crawls and restaurant competitions, all businesses in downtown reap the benefits.”

NewTown’s Main Street Macon board developed the Downtown Macon French Fry as a way to drive more foot traffic downtown during the summer, which tends to be a slower season for the downtown area. Main Street Macon regularly organizes collaborative events to generate excitement in the community and encourage supporting locally owned and operated businesses. The French Fry Fight offers restaurants an opportunity to take a side dish they already have on their menu and turn it into an entrée as a one-time offering.

Participating restaurants will serve their fry special on Wednesday, July 13 at their place of business. Downtown-goers can vote for their favorite special online at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/3M53M33. The restaurant with the most votes will win the coveted Super Spud award and bragging rights.

Participating restaurants include Biddy’s, Cashman’s Pub, Fall Line Brewing Co., Felicia’s Cake Factory, Kudzu Seafood Company, Loom, Macon Beer Company, Ocmulgee Brewpub, Oliver’s Corner Bistro, Pearl Passional Cuisine & Cocktails, Piedmont Brewery & Kitchen, the Rookery, Satterfield’s, and VIBEZ. 
 
“The Main Street Macon board is responsible for many of the fun, creative, and collaborative events that happen downtown throughout the year,” said Emily Hopkins, Director of Place and Main Street Macon Manager at NewTown Macon. “Events like the French Fry Fight help show off downtown’s best assets -our locally owned and operated businesses.”
