Newtown Macon Launches The Market
Staff Report From Middle Georgia CEO
Friday, September 13th, 2019
NewTown Macon will launch The Market, a monthly farmers and makers market held in downtown Macon on the third Sunday of the month. The Market will feature local producers, handmade crafts and artisan goods, and handmade food items.
In 2018, NewTown Macon’s Main Street Board Committee won a grant from the Downtown Challenge Fund of the Community Foundation of Central Georgia to host a monthly market to increase access to food for residents living in the Central Business District and to provide vibrant programming on Sundays in the urban core.
“We wanted to create an experience with a purpose,” said Emily Hopkins, Director of Place at NewTown Macon. “Our Main Street board thought a market would be a way to provide food options in addition to products created by local makers. Our hope is to promote the other wonderful markets held in our community that occur more regularly to ensure downtown residents know of the many ways they can access fresh, local food.”
The Market will kick off on Sunday, September 15 and take place from 11:00am to 2:00pm on Poplar Street between First Street and Second Street. During The Market, Dean Brown and the Dubshak Band will perform. The Market is free and open to the public.
Vendors during the September market include Rocking Chair Ranch, Jail Creek Farms, Green Hearts and Crafts. Good Boy Goodies, Celestial Mind and Soul, Bon Bon Macon. DkDesigns4, The Bearded Bee Homestead, Le Elegant Macaron, Li'monz Sips-n-Dips, The Savvy Smoker, The Sassy Alpaca, ChemScentsations All Natural Body Products, Macon Metal Works, and Bone Creek Farms.
