Aracely Caraveo-Real of St Peter Claver Catholic School talks about the important role Catholic schools play in the Latin community.

I am Aracely Caraveo-Real the Spanish language teacher and librarian at St. Peter Claver Catholic School. I am also the mother of four children attending Catholic schools.

As a mother and educator, I believe that education is one of the most important aspects of a child's life and we need to begin that education early - right from PreK. As a Catholic, I believe that education is not just about acquiring knowledge but also about developing a strong moral and ethical foundation.

St Peter Claver Catholic School provides an excellent environment for children to learn and grow both academically and spiritually. One of the things that I appreciate about Catholic schools like ours is their holistic approach to education. They not only focus on academic excellence but also on character formation, community service, and moral values.

As a Latino mother, I strongly believe in the importance of family values and St Peter Claver and each one of our local Catholic schools all share that same belief.  At St Peter Claver we promote a sense of community, family values, and encourage students to be compassionate and empathetic towards others. This is especially important for me as a Latino because our Latino culture emphasizes the importance of community and supporting each other.  In addition, our Latino population in Middle Georgia is growing and today, 20% of St. Peter Claver’s students are of Hispanic origin.

St Peter Claver is a wonderful place to work because it is an institution that values and empowers the voices and talents of its Latino students, staff and faculty.  It also provides a safe and supportive environment for all children from every kind of background. There is a strong culture of respect, tolerance, and understanding at the school which is even more essential today in our diverse society. Here all children, including our Latino children, develop a strong sense of identity and belonging, and they feel valued and respected.

Another reason why I love working in a Catholic school is that we encourage parental involvement. At St Peter Claver, we provide numerous opportunities for parents to be involved in their children's learning and to support the school community.

Lastly, St Peter Claver has 120 years of of providing excellent education. We have high academic standards, small class sizes, and dedicated teachers who are committed to the success of their students. My students are challenged academically and are receiving an education that will prepare them for their future.

Thank you for listening.
