Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Thursday, November 5th, 2026

Bibb County School District families will be hosting 20 students as well as chaperones from Macon-Bibb’s sister city of Kurobe, Japan, starting this weekend. The visit will begin on Friday, November 6, when the host families will meet their exchange students.

“There is something truly special about seeing our students connect with students from Kurobe and realizing that, even though they live in different parts of the world, they have so much in common,” said Dr. Lori Rodgers, Assistant Superintendent for District Effectiveness and Federal Programs. “We are excited to welcome our friends back to Bibb County School District and to give our students another opportunity to learn beyond the classroom through friendship, culture, and shared experiences. This exchange is a wonderful example of how meaningful partnerships can broaden our students’ perspectives and create memories and relationships that can last a lifetime.”

Highlights of the visit will continue on Sunday, November 8, with a tour of the Hay House, with an art exhibit called “Inspired Surroundings,” featuring Hay House-inspired pieces by Bibb high school. This tour will be followed by a cultural performance and dinner at the W.S. Hutchings College & Career Academy.

On Monday, November 9, exchange students and their host students will take a tour of YKK. Lunch on Monday will include a recognition ceremony, provided by Macon-Bibb Mayor Lester Miller’s office. The visit will conclude on Wednesday morning, November 11, when exchange students and their host students will depart for Atlanta for a tour of various sites before the Japanese exchange students depart from Atlanta on Thursday, November 12.
