Houston County Sales Tax Rises as FLOST Begins Thursday

Shoppers in Houston County will pay an extra penny on the dollar starting Thursday as the county’s new Floating Local Option Sales Tax (FLOST) takes effect.

The sales tax rate will rise from 7% to 8% on Oct. 1. Voters approved the five-year tax in May.

Houston County Commission Chairman Dan Perdue said county leaders designed FLOST to shift some of the cost of local government services away from property taxes and onto sales-tax collections.
