Duracell Officially Opens New Atlanta-based Global R&D Headquarters
Thursday, October 8th, 2026

The Duracell Company, a Berkshire Hathaway company, celebrated the opening of its Global Headquarters for Research and Development at Science Square Labs, within Georgia Tech’s 18-acre Science Square innovation district on the western edge of Midtown Atlanta, with a ceremony on October 6. Mayor Andre Dickens joined Duracell for the ribbon cutting at the purpose-built lab and office tower at 101 Nerem Street NW.
Also in attendance were Chad Koenig, Partner, and Katelyn Fabian, Vice President, of Partners Real Estate’s Atlanta office, who represent Duracell at Science Square Labs.
Duracell relocated its global innovation and R&D operations to metro Atlanta from Bethel, Connecticut, as part of a multi-year initiative the State of Georgia announced in February 2025 as a $56 million investment expected to create 110 jobs. Employees began working at Science Square Labs on August 10, 2026. The move deepens a Georgia presence that dates to 1980, when Duracell began manufacturing batteries in LaGrange; the company has also operated a packaging and distribution facility in Fairburn since 2020.
The Atlanta center serves as Duracell’s global innovation hub, where scientists and engineers work across materials science, cell design, laboratory prototyping and device characterization to advance battery performance, quality and safety. Proximity to Georgia Tech opens access to academic researchers, startups and industry partners.
“We needed a building that could be the foundation of Research and Development for the future of our organization,” said Karen Iveson, Senior Director, Global Transformation Projects at Duracell. “Chad and Katelyn have been excellent partners since we kicked off the site selection process, and their support has been instrumental in helping our employees transition to the Atlanta market.”
Phase I of Science Square, anchored by the 13-story, approximately 364,000-sq.-ft. Science Square Labs, delivered in 2025. At full build-out, the district’s master plan allows for approximately 1.8 million sq. ft. of lab and office space, 500 residences and 25,000 sq. ft. of retail. Duracell joins a Science Square Labs roster that includes Georgia Tech and Emory biomedical engineering faculty labs, a Shriners Children’s research institute, and Osmose, and occupies 82,500 sq. ft. of the building.
“It has been a privilege to partner with Duracell as it built its new home in Atlanta,” said Mr. Koenig. “Their team brings the same care to this facility that goes into products millions of people rely on every day. We are grateful for the relationship we’ve built with Duracell and proud to celebrate this milestone with them, for the company and for Atlanta’s growing role as a national science hub.”
Since opening, Duracell has collaborated with local universities and the state’s economic development and government affairs teams to build partnerships that will make a lasting impact on Atlanta’s business community.
