Macon Honors 'King of Soul' Otis Redding with Street Dedication on His 85th Birthday

Macon officially dedicated a street to Otis Redding on Tuesday, honoring the King of Soul on what would have been his 85th birthday.
The city renamed a portion of downtown's historic music district as Otis Redding Way, with the street sign unveiled at the corner of Cotton Avenue and Cherry Street. Macon-Bibb Mayor Lester Miller signed a proclamation during a ceremony attended by Redding's family members, city leaders and supporters.
Redding, who was born Sept. 9, 1941, in Dawson, Georgia, moved to Macon as a child. He became one of the most influential soul singers of all time, recording hits including "These Arms of Mine," "Respect" and "Sitting on the Dock of the Bay."
