Macon-Bibb Literacy Alliance Celebrates Fifth Annual Literacy Week

The Macon-Bibb Mayor’s Literacy Alliance is celebrating its fifth annual Adult Education and Family Literacy Week, highlighting the importance of literacy for both children and adults.

The alliance works with community organizations to support literacy throughout Macon-Bibb County. Executive Director Jim Montgomery says supporting adults and children goes hand in hand.

“Research says that when learning is reinforced at home, children are much more successful,” Montgomery said. “There are a number of adults who also benefit from literacy services. Those who may not have received those services earlier on in life for a particular reason. But it’s important that we empower the adults so that they can work with the children.”
