The Laurens County Commission has unanimously voted to approve a millage rate of 7 mills, marking the first tax hike in more than a decade for Laurens County.

Neal Grillot has lived in Laurens County for 26 years, and he says he's learned to trust the numbers his local government puts in front of him.

"We learned a lot tonight from the commissioners about how the money is spent, and what is needed to run an efficient county providing a lot of value, which are services," Grillot said, after sitting through a public hearing on a proposed tax increase.
