Central Georgia CASA has been named the 2026 recipient of the Liberty Bell Award by the Macon Bar Association, recognizing the organization’s commitment to promoting respect for the law, the courts, and the principles of the U.S. Constitution through advocacy for children in foster care.

Central Georgia CASA provides court-appointed volunteer advocacy for children in foster care in Bibb, Crawford, and Peach Counties. Trained and screened CASA volunteers are appointed by the Juvenile Court to advocate for the best interests of children, gathering information from children, caregivers, DFCS, schools, service providers, attorneys, and other members of the child's support team. Volunteers communicate their findings and recommendations to the court, helping ensure that the child's needs and circumstances are understood during court proceedings.

“This recognition is especially meaningful because our CASA volunteers work every day at the intersection of children, families, and the court system,” said Elizabeth Hammock, Executive Director of Central Georgia CASA. “Our volunteers believe every child deserves to be heard and that every child deserves an advocate who will make sure their best interests remain at the center of the decisions being made about their future.”

Through its volunteer advocates, Central Georgia CASA helps strengthen the connection between children in foster care and the judicial system. CASA volunteers provide the court with information gathered through consistent, personal involvement with the child and the people responsible for their care.
