Baldwin County Commission Unanimously Approves 35% Property Tax Hike Amid $15 Million Financial Crisis

The Baldwin County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a 3.49-mills increase, lower than the originally proposed 9.3-mills increase, as the commission grapples with a $15 million budget shortfall.
The county hiked the millage rate from 9.87 mills to 13.36 mills, which will be reflected in the upcoming tax bills set to start going out Oct. 15.
The approved millage rate is far lower than the 9.3 mills increase previously proposed, which would have marked a roughly 95% increase in the millage rate.
