'Ensure a Functioning System' - $3 Million Project Upgrades Macon-Bibb Tornado Alert Sirens

Macon-Bibb County is upgrading its tornado warning system to help residents receive alerts sooner to better prepare for severe weather.
The $3 million project includes the installation of more than 80 new outdoor warning sirens throughout the county. Crews replaced one of the sirens Friday in front of Hartley Elementary School.
“We wanted to ensure that we had a good functioning system so that we could notify our community of tornado warnings,” Spencer Hawkins, Macon-Bibb emergency management director said.
