Proposed Federal Changes to Historic Preservation Review Raise Concerns in Macon

A proposal to overhaul how the federal government reviews projects that could affect historic places is drawing concern from preservation advocates, who say the changes could weaken protections for historic sites and reduce public input nationwide.
The Advisory Council on Historic Preservation voted Friday to move forward with proposed revisions to the Section 106 review process under the National Historic Preservation Act. The recommendations now enter the federal rulemaking process before any changes can take effect.
