Macon Water Ice Claims Back-To-Back Title in Downtown Macon French Fry Fight

Macon Water Ice is the winner of the coveted Super Spud Trophy, given to the restaurant with the most votes during the Downtown Macon French Fry Fight. This is the second time Macon Water Ice has collected the most votes for their fry special; they first won the title of best fries in 2025.
Macon Water Ice’s winning special, the Pineapple Mango Salmon Fries, featured fresh-cut pineapples and mangoes served over seasoned fries with salmon, broccoli, grilled onions, peppers, and American cheese, topped with a pineapple-mango sauce.
Twenty-two downtown restaurants participated in the fifth annual Downtown Macon French Fry Fight, which created a boost in downtown foot traffic and sales July 8-10. Several businesses reported lines of customers throughout the three-day event.
NewTown’s Main Street Macon board developed the Downtown Macon French Fry Fight as a way to drive more foot traffic downtown during the summer, which tends to be a slower season for the downtown area. This event helped achieve that goal by creating buzz around culinary twists on a classic side that most restaurants already have on their menu.
NewTown Macon also reminds Maconites that Summer Snaps, its July rewards program, runs through July 31. Downtown shoppers who submit five receipts from downtown businesses can earn back 20% of their combined total, up to $50, as a gift card to the downtown business of their choice.
