Macon-Bibb Celebrates the Start of Construction on the New Macon Arena
Wednesday, July 29th, 2026
Macon-Bibb County will officially break ground on the new Macon Arena on Wednesday, July 29, at 9:00 a.m. at 200 Coliseum Drive, marking the start of construction of one of the community's most significant investments in sports, entertainment, and economic development.
Community leaders, project partners, and guests will gather to celebrate the beginning of construction on the state-of-the-art facility, which will replace the nearly 60-year-old Macon Coliseum. The new Macon Arena will help position Macon-Bibb County as a premier destination for concerts, sporting events, conventions, family entertainment, and community gatherings. The existing Coliseum will remain operational during construction.
"This groundbreaking represents far more than the start of construction; it’s a celebration of our investment in our people, our economy, and our future," says Mayor Lester Miller. "We're building a place where future generations will make memories, where our community can gather to celebrate, compete, and connect, and where visitors from across the region and country will experience everything Macon has to offer."
The project is led by MFA Project Management, with PBK Architects serving as the design firm and Barton Malow + Sheridan Construction overseeing construction. The designs were unveiled at a Big Reveal on June 24, and you can see more from that milestone here.
