Habitat Chapters Merge to Create Macon Milledgeville Regional Habitat for Humanity

Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Tuesday, July 7th, 2026

Macon Area Habitat for Humanity (MAHFH) and Habitat for Humanity Milledgeville Baldwin County (HFHMBC) are proud to announce their official merger, effective July 1, 2026, creating Macon Milledgeville Regional Habitat for Humanity. The newly unified organization will build upon decades of service and a successful regional partnership to expand affordable homeownership opportunities and neighborhood revitalization efforts throughout Central Georgia.

Founded in 1986, Macon Area Habitat for Humanity has partnered with more than 160 families on their path to affordable homeownership, helping strengthen neighborhoods and create lasting opportunities for generations of residents. Habitat for Humanity Milledgeville-Baldwin County, established in 1994, has built 22 homes and served many additional families through its critical home repair program, helping residents remain safely and securely in their homes.

Together, the two affiliates represent more than 70 years of local Habitat service and share a commitment to Habitat for Humanity's global mission of ensuring that everyone has a safe, decent, and affordable place to live.

While the merger becomes official on July 1, the organizations have been collaborating since 2024. At the request of dedicated HFHMBC board members and with support from a $600,000 CHIP grant, Macon Area Habitat for Humanity provided leadership, staffing, and operational expertise to help restart Habitat's homebuilding program in Milledgeville after construction activities slowed during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Since 2024, the partnership has flourished with the completion of three new Habitat homes for local families in Milledgeville and the construction of two additional homes in collaboration with Baldwin County currently underway. This expansion has strengthened Habitat’s regional impact without slowing progress in Macon‑Bibb County, where annual homebuilding continues to rise. With funding already secured for future housing projects, the organization has established a strong pipeline for sustained growth and lasting impact throughout Baldwin County.

In Macon-Bibb County, Habitat's commitment remains equally strong, continuing to build an average of 10 homes a year. The organization will continue its longstanding investment in the Lynmore Estates community, where it has been building homes and strengthening neighborhoods for more than two decades. Habitat will also continue its work in Napier Heights, a neighborhood recently identified as a priority area for revitalization, where affordable homeownership serves as a catalyst for broader community transformation.

The merger positions the organization for significant future growth. As housing affordability continues to challenge families throughout the region, the unified affiliate will be better equipped to pursue funding opportunities, coordinate volunteers, strengthen community partnerships, and increase the number of families served through Habitat homeownership programs.

Based on current funding commitments and planned developments, Macon Milledgeville Regional Habitat for Humanity expects to more than double its impact over the next five years, creating new opportunities for families to achieve the stability and wealth-building benefits that homeownership provides.

Importantly, community members can expect continuity in leadership and local engagement. The same dedicated staff and Board of Directors that have guided the partnership since 2024 will continue leading the organization under the direction of Executive Director Ivey Hall.

“The need for homeownership opportunities for local families continues to grow across the United States and we are seeing it right here in Middle Georgia. The ability to bring Habitat’s mission in Macon and Milledgeville together is already proving beneficial to both communities,” says Ivey Hall, Executive Director. “Local companies, foundations and state and federal funding sources have already stepped up to provide funding for 30 homes and we hope to be able to announce more soon. The community has supported our mission for 40 years and we are excited to do even more in Macon-Bibb, Milledgeville, Baldwin and Jones Counties as we move into our next 40 years together.”

As Macon Milledgeville Regional Habitat for Humanity begins this new chapter, the organization remains committed to Habitat's vision of a world where everyone has a decent place to live. Through the support of volunteers, donors, community partners, and future homeowners, the organization will continue creating pathways to affordable homeownership and building stronger communities throughout Central Georgia.

Over the next few months homeowner applicants, donors and volunteers will begin to notice a transition to our new name on our building, website, social media and emails.
