The Hillbilly Thomists in Concert
Join us on Monday, August 4 in downtown Macon for a concert featuring The Hillbilly Thomists. This event is in celebration of The Resona Magazine Launch Event, presented by Catholic creative agency, Paloma & Fig.
The Hillbilly Thomists are a bluegrass and Americana band made up of Dominican friars from the Dominican House of Studies in Washington, D.C. Rooted in the thought of St. Thomas Aquinas and the Dominican tradition of preaching, the friars blend faith, storytelling, and music in a way that reflects the beauty of grace at work in ordinary life. Since releasing their debut album in 2017—which reached #3 on the Billboard Bluegrass Chart—the band has toured nationally, performed at the Grand Ole Opry House, and released multiple charting albums including Living for the Other Side, Holy Ghost Power, and Marigold.
Through music shaped by contemplation, joy, and the mystery of the Incarnation, the Hillbilly Thomists continue their mission of preaching the Gospel while supporting the formation of future Dominican friars.

Macon Film Guild Presents: "Honeyjoon"
June and her Persian-British mom, Lela, travel to the romantic Azores for a grief anniversary, each coping in contrasting ways. A hot-and-deep surfer takes them on a tour as we surf the waves of life, loss, and flirting – an unforgettable ride.
Honeyjoon finds American June (Ayden Mayeri) on vacation in the beautiful Azores islands with her Persian-Kurdish mother, Lela (Amira Casar), one year after the loss of her father. Accidentally surrounded by overly affectionate honeymooners, the pair have plans to navigate their trip in completely different ways. June’s goal of regaining her joie de vivre is put to the test as Lela pines for a deeper investigation into their shared loss. When a tour guide challenges their status quo with his many, many charms, the two begin to reawaken and learn that what they truly need to move forward may be found within the distance between them.
Honeyjoon features stunning scenery from the paradise of the Azores, juxtaposed with the relatable stages of grief that simmer below the surface of every interaction. With intimate, sharp, and darkly funny performances by stars Mayeri, Casar and Jose Condessa, Honeyjoon showcases new director Lilian Mehrel’s signature goal to make you heartily laugh with a tear in your eye.
