Wednesday, July 29th, 2026

Catholic private school Mount de Sales Academy, located in Macon, Georgia, will host a parent presentation on the adolescent brain on Sunday, Aug. 10, at 6 p.m. as part of its ongoing commitment to partnering with families.
Jared Cooney Horvath, a neuroscientist and educator, will share research-based insights into how adolescents learn, how their brains develop, and the ways technology can influence attention, memory, and behavior. The presentation will provide parents with practical knowledge to better understand and support their students during these formative years. This event is free and open to the public. “Parenting an adolescent can be both rewarding and bewildering,” said Emily Brown, Upper School Head. “Dr. Horvath has a remarkable ability to explain what is happening in the adolescent brain in a way that is practical, reassuring, and genuinely helpful. I hope parents will join us for an evening that will offer both insight into their children and a better understanding of how to support them as they grow.”
Mount de Sales is committed to the professional development of its faculty and staff. Each year, faculty members read a book together and discuss it when they return in the fall. When asked why The Digital Delusion was selected, Brown said, “Because it gives us a valuable opportunity to reflect on how we use technology in our classrooms. The book invites us to think carefully about when technology supports learning and when another approach may better protect the relationships, attention, deep thinking, and joy that are at the heart of excellent teaching.”
