As Ocmulgee Park Effort Advances, Macon-Bibb Pushes Ahead with Arena, Hotel Redevelopment

As Congress takes another step toward making Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park Georgia's first national park, Macon-Bibb County leaders are accelerating plans for a sweeping redevelopment of the east side of the Ocmulgee River centered on a new arena, a renovated convention hotel and a future convention center.
As first reported by The Macon Newsroom, the next milestone in the national park effort comes Wednesday, when the "Ocmulgee Mounds National Park Redesignation Act," U.S. House Resolution 9416, will be heard by the House Natural Resources Committee's Subcommittee on Federal Lands.
The bill, sponsored by U.S. Rep. Austin Scott, R-Ga., would redesignate Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park as Georgia's first national park and preserve.
