Additionally, Courtenay Puckett will be holding an Artist Talk with 478 Creatives at the Macon Arts Gallery on Thursday, June 18, from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm.

Coal Country: A Documentary Play by Jessica Blank & Erik Jensen
The true story of the Upper Big Branch mine disaster through the words of the people who lived it—miners, family members, and investigators.By Jessica Blank & Erik Jensen

Music and Lyrics by Steve Earle
Directed by Sydney H. Chalfa

What happened underground should never have happened at all.

Coal Country tells the true story of the Upper Big Branch mine disaster—the worst mining catastrophe in the United States in forty years. Through the words of the people who lived it—miners, family members, and investigators—the play lays bare a system where profit was protected and lives were not.

This is documentary theatre at its most direct. No characters invented. No speeches polished. Just testimony—raw, human, and impossible to ignore.

Nine actors remain onstage for the entire performance, weaving together voices of grief, anger, memory, and resilience. Music by Steve Earle moves through the piece like a witness—sometimes a lament, sometimes a reckoning.

This is not a distant story. It’s about labor, responsibility, and the cost of looking the other way. It asks a simple, uncomfortable question: Who is accountable when safety becomes optional?

Performed in an intimate black box setting with audience on three sides, Coal Countryplaces you inside the story—close enough to feel the weight of every word.

A portion of the proceeds benefits Centenary Community Ministries.
This show contains adult language and themes.

Storytellers Macon Presents: Heated Rivalry
Join us every 2nd Tuesday of the month at Historic Grant’s Lounge for an open mic Storytelling event – 10 years and going strong!

You know those relationships where the tension is part of the fun? The coworker who steals your lunch but somehow becomes your best friend, the sibling rivalry that still exists well into adulthood, or the person you swore you couldn’t stand, until suddenly things got… complicated.

With a little nod to Heated Rivalry, this month is all about the sparks that fly when personalities clash, emotions run high, and connections get messy, funny, or unexpectedly meaningful. We’ll be highlighting voices from the LGBTQ+ community, while keeping the stage open to anyone with a story to share.

From playful feuds to heartfelt connections, come tell us about the people who challenged you, annoyed you, surprised you, or somehow became part of your story anyway.

Featured Teller: Kiersten Sanford

Fractal Friday
Fractal Friday is BACK!

MAS will partner with the Fractal Foundation (Albuquerque, NM) to present these innovative art-infused science experiences in the planetarium which immerse audiences in flights through fractal animations (or complex, never-ending geometric patterns that repeat at different scales). Each experience is unique and showcases repeating patterns of fractals that have been augmented with dramatic flight movements and dynamic color cycling – plus live presenters offering information about the mathematical formulas that define fractals occurring in nature, from the growth of the tiniest plant up to the shapes of galaxies!

The 6 p.m. performance will be for family audiences and describe what fractals are and where they can be found. The 7 p.m. showing will be “Fractals Rock,” which will be a more experiential production.
