Summer Southern Pop Art Tour with Michael Albert
Michael Albert Brings his Modern Pop Art Experience for All Ages to Macon, Georgia this Summer!!
As part of his Summer Southern Pop Art Tour, American Pop Artist Michael Albert will be bringing his nationally known Cereal Box Collage Workshop to the Museum of Arts & Sciences in Macon, GA on Friday June 26th from 10:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.
He will lead his Hands-On Collage workshop where participants (Kids & parents) will have the chance to create their own masterpieces using Albert’s materials of choice, namely Cereal Boxes & other colorful cardboard packages including cookie boxes, cracker boxes, soda cartons & many other well known consumer brands. All participants will receive a free signed poster of one of Albert’s creations as a special gift for joining him in this creative art making session.
American Pop Artist Michael Albert was born & raised in New York on Long Island where graduated from Lawrence High School & then, New York University with a business degree, and currently lives & works in White Plains, New York with his wife Erynn. Together they have 4 children. Albert is the author of an artist autobiography titled, “An Artist’s America” (Henry Holt, 2008) and is nationally known for making collage artworks from Cereal boxes & other printed cardboard consumer brand packages. His work has been described as a cross between Pop Art, Cubism & Recycling with a wide range of subjects he explores including many text-based works. He just calls it “Art”.
Albert’s Pop Art is often referred to as “Modern” since he’s been creating it for the past 25 years and still creates new works on a regular basis, whereas the Pop Art movement began almost 70 years ago with the ‘old masters’ such as: Andy Warhol, Jasper Johns, Robert Rauschenberg, Roy Lichtenstein and others who started creating art themed about everyday things (products & objects) & subjects (current events, etc). Albert’s “Portrait of An American Classic”, Frosted Flakes Box Collage was his official beginning as a Modern Pop Artist back in 1996. He calls that collage, ’The Birth of Cerealism’! Since that breakthrough creation, he has created over 700 collages from Cereal boxes like this, and thousands more with different themes, all artworks using the same everyday materials.
He says that his true goal in all of this work & effort is to create a masterpiece worthy of hanging in a major museum like the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York City, the Louvre in Paris, The Tate in London, etc!
He will be bringing his nationally renowned “Modern Pop Art Experience” Art programs to over 100 cities in 6 states this summer including: Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Georgia, South Carolina & North Carolina. Over the past 15 years he has been running this art enrichment program and brought it to over 1,500 libraries, museums, schools, art & community centers in 48 states so far, with only Alaska & Hawaii left to complete the 50!
He is excited to bring his art to the Museum of Arts & Sciences for the first time!
