The Georgia Department of Labor announced Thursday that the five-county Macon Metropolitan Statistical Area recorded month-over-month employment and job growth, with an unemployment rate of 3.4%, falling five-tenths of a percentage point over the month. A year ago, the rate was 3.4%.
“Georgia has always been a state that rewards hard work, and right now, hard work is paying off in a big way,” said Georgia Labor Commissioner Bárbara Rivera Holmes. “Every single metro area in this state added jobs in April, more Georgians are earning mortgage-paying paychecks, and our workforce is more skilled and competitive than ever. That is what it looks like when Georgia, a Top State for Talent, goes to work.”
The labor force in Macon decreased by 225 over the month and rose by 926 over the year, totaling 99,306.
Macon finished the month with 95,912 employed residents, up 298 over the month and 877 from a year ago.
Macon ended April with 101,800 jobs, up 200 over the month and down 300 from the same time last year.
In April, initial unemployment claims in Macon increased by 19 from the previous month and were down by 52 from the same month last year, totaling 374.
