Macon Arts Alliance is happy to present their May exhibit, “Happy Places”, featuring a collection of diverse works from various artists. In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, “Happy Places” is a space for artists to reflect on the places we return to when the world feels heavy.
The “Happy Places” opening reception will be on First Friday, May 1, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

Learn to create a watercolor painting in a fun, relaxed setting. No painting experience required. Bring a beverage of your choice to sip on while you paint. Award-winning artist, Scott Serafy, will guide you through the steps to paint one of various subjects (florals, cityscapes, landscapes, still lifes). We’ve had great times over the last year-plus of classes. One participant said, “We had a blast! Thank you for an amazing evening!”
April’s subject will be a shrimp boat, in the style of the picture shown here. $30 includes all materials for the class. The workshop starts at 7pm and goes for 2 hours. There are 10 spots available for the class.

Inside Neel Reid — Architecture, Preservation, and Place
Join us at the Neel Reid home of Richard Bates to kick off Historic Preservation Month. This home and garden will only be open for this one event. Engage with experts in historic preservation and architecture while enjoying cocktails, refreshments, and container gardening demonstrations led by Macon’s talented Jim Hutto. This event serves as a wonderful introduction to the Spring Stroll Weekend and Historic Preservation month. A panel discussion will be led by Georgia Trust CEO Wright Mitchell, Historic Macon Foundation’s Director Emily Hopkins, Atlanta Architect and Reid expert Jonathon LaCrosse. The panelists will explore the significance of preserving historical sites and the impact Neel Reid’s efforts have on community identity and cultural heritage. The evening promises to be both enlightening and enjoyable, with opportunities for networking and learning. Please note that tickets are limited.
