Happy Places
Macon Arts Alliance is happy to present their May exhibit, “Happy Places”, featuring a collection of diverse works from various artists. This exhibit explores the spaces—real or imagined—that bring us comfort, calm, and joy. In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, “Happy Places” is a space for artists to reflect on the places we return to when the world feels heavy.
The “Happy Places” opening reception will be on First Friday, May 1, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

Fractal Friday
MAS is partnering with the Fractal Foundation (Albuquerque, NM) to present innovative art-infused science experiences in the planetarium which immerse audiences in flights through fractal animations (or complex, never-ending geometric patterns that repeat at different scales).
Each experience is unique and showcases repeating patterns of fractals that have been augmented with dramatic flight movements and dynamic color cycling – plus live presenters offering information about the mathematical formulas that define fractals occurring in nature, from the growth of the tiniest plant up to the shapes of galaxies!
The 6 p.m. performance will be for family audiences and describe what fractals are and where they can be found. The 7 p.m. showing will be “Fractals Rock,” which will be a more experiential production.

Macon Film Guild Presents: "Idiotka"
In West Hollywood’s Russian district, Margarita lives out the American Dream: competing on a reality show. Will she slay, serve, or survive?
Directed by Nastasya Popov
Starring Anna Baryshnikov
Summary – In this sharp, irreverent comedy, Margarita (Anna Baryshnikov), a disgraced fashion designer with a dangerously low credit score, enters a reality show with a six-figure cash prize to save her babushka’s West Hollywood apartment. But as the competition intensifies, slick producer Nicol (Camila Mendes) pushes her to spin her family’s struggle into spectacle, forcing Margarita to decide whether to play along or take control of her own narrative, one unhinged look at a time.
Review Excerpts:
Variety – Popov delivers a boisterous tale of a woman coming into her own, told with real humor and heart.
New York Times – The American dream gets a quirky wardrobe upgrade in “Idiotka,” a lightweight but winning comedy . . . the movie’s devotion to family solidarity guarantees a measure of genuine feeling.
