River Edge Invites Middle Georgia to “Go Green” Together for Mental Health Awareness Month

Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Thursday, April 30th, 2026

This May, River Edge Behavioral Health is inviting Middle Georgia to come together in a visible show of care, connection, and support for mental wellness. On Friday, May 1, community members are encouraged to “Go Green” as part of Mental Health Awareness Month, with Macon’s popular First Friday celebration joining the effort in downtown Macon.
Since 1949, May has been observed as Mental Health Awareness Month to fight stigma and provide support for the millions of Americans living with mental illness. The 2026 national theme, “More Good Days, Together,” highlights the power of community connection and reminds us that support is strongest when it’s shared.

“Mental health matters to every one of us,” said a representative for River Edge. “When our community goes green together, it sends a clear message that help, hope, and support are available across Middle Georgia.  It’s a very simple way to say:  You Are Not Alone.”
How the Community Can Participate

Show Your Support
  • Wear Green on May 1: Businesses, schools, organizations, and families are encouraged to wear green clothing or accessories as a visible sign of support for mental wellness.
  • Go Green on First Friday: While enjoying downtown Macon’s galleries, shops, and restaurants, wear green—the international color for mental health awareness, to show your support.
Connect, Share, and Find Support
  • Social Media: Share photos of your “Go Green” outfits or First Friday experiences using #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth and #RiverEdgeGA to help others find community and encouragement.
  • Start the Conversation: Reach out to a coworker, friend, family member, or neighbor and ask how they’re really doing. A small conversation can make a meaningful difference.
  • Share Resources: Post or display mental health resources in break rooms, classrooms, offices, or community spaces.
