Middle Georgia Regional Commission to Host Screening of “A Butterfly Has Been Released”

Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Thursday, April 16th, 2026

The Middle Georgia Regional Commission (MGRC) invites community
members, professionals, and caregivers to attend a special screening of the documentary A Butterfly Has Been Released on April 29, 2029, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Registration details are available on the attached flyer.

A Butterfly Has Been Released: Living and Dying with Brain Cancer: A Story of Unfiltered Honesty & Grace tells the story of Allyson, a hospice nurse who chose to document her final days after receiving a terminal diagnosis. Her journey offers a powerful and honest perspective on living fully while facing death.

The film provides an authentic, sometimes humorous look at the end-of-life experience, challenging stigma and encouraging open conversations about death and dying. It follows Allyson’s final 39 days, including a “living funeral” where she celebrates life with loved ones and her wish for a natural, green burial.

Following the screening, a panel discussion will feature filmmakers Jason Zamer and Barry Koch, hospice liaison Kim Hall, and P.K. Beville, founder of Second Wind Dreams. Together, they will share insights on end-of-life choices, the meaning of a living funeral, green burial options, and the importance of community support.

“This film reminds us that even in death, there is an opportunity for connection, meaning, and grace. Through this film, she’s still talking to us all.”
This event is open to the public and is especially valuable for healthcare professionals, caregivers, social workers, and anyone interested in compassionate conversations about life and death.

Attendees are encouraged to register here. For questions or more information, please contact Mott Smith at 478-751-6466 or [email protected].
