Macon-Bibb County has officially named Joveta Turner as the Chief Human Resources Officer following approval by the Commission on Tuesday, April 7.
Turner is no stranger to Macon-Bibb. With nearly two decades of experience in public-sector human resources, she has spent much of her career serving the community and supporting the County’s workforce.
“It is truly an honor and a humbling experience to step into the role of Chief Human Resources Officer after serving as Interim for almost two years,” said Turner. “That time has allowed me to build strong relationships, gain meaningful insight, and deepen my commitment to our employees and the community we serve.”
She first joined the organization in 2005 as a Human Resources Technician with the former City of Macon, giving her a unique perspective on the government’s evolution before and after consolidation. She later served for nine years as a Benefits Specialist, helping manage employee and retiree benefits while ensuring compliance and supporting staff across departments.
In 2017, Turner expanded her experience in the healthcare field as a Senior Human Resources Generalist at Crisp Regional Hospital, where she worked on compensation, benefits, performance management, and compliance.
She returned to Macon-Bibb County in December 2020 as Assistant Chief Human Resources Officer, overseeing key areas like employment, compensation, and benefits while advising leadership on personnel matters. Since then, she has stepped into the Interim Chief role twice, most recently serving in that position since May 2024.
In her role, Turner leads human resources efforts for more than 1,800 employees, focusing on strengthening operations, supporting employees, and ensuring the organization continues to run effectively.
Turner holds a Master of Business Administration in Human Resource Management and is known for her collaborative leadership style, strong institutional knowledge, and commitment to the County’s workforce.
“I look forward to continuing this important work, supporting our workforce, and helping move Macon-Bibb County forward,” added Turner.
