As part of its Earth Month efforts, Gordon State College has partnered with Recover Brands to introduce a 360° closed-loop program in the Campus Store, allowing donated clothing to be repurposed into new Gordon State apparel made from 100% recycled materials.
Through the program, members of Highlander Nation and the surrounding community can donate unwanted clothing at a collection bin in the Campus Store. These materials are then processed and repurposed into new Gordon State-branded apparel made entirely from recycled materials.
The initiative introduces a new line of merchandise, including T-shirts, long-sleeve shirts and sweatshirts, all produced using minimal water consumption and renewable energy sources. The collection reflects a growing commitment to environmentally responsible practices while offering students, faculty and staff a new way to show their Highlander pride.
“The average American discards dozens of pounds of clothing each year, much of it ending up in landfills,” said Teresa Thompson, GSC Campus Store manager. “By rethinking how apparel is produced and reused, we are creating opportunities for meaningful impact both on campus and beyond.”
The partnership also aligns with Earth Month efforts through Recover’s “One Tee = One Tree” initiative. For every Recover product purchased, a tree will be planted on behalf of GSC, further extending the program’s environmental impact.
GSC invites students, faculty, staff and community members to participate in the program throughout April and support efforts to reduce waste and promote responsible consumption.
