EMA Seeking public input for Five-Year Disaster Planning
Monday, April 6th, 2026
Macon-Bibb County’s Emergency Management Agency (EMA) is updating its Pre-Disaster Hazard Mitigation Plan and is asking for public input to help identify potential risks and improve preparedness across the community.
The plan helps EMA understand possible hazards, assess how prepared departments and residents are, and guide future mitigation efforts and training.
“As our community grows and changes, so do the levels of risk posed by various threats and hazards,” said EMA Deputy Director Robert McCord. “By reviewing our potential risks and planning for preparation and response, we can reduce or eliminate the impacts from those threats.”
To gather feedback, EMA has been hosting a series of public meetings. The April 6 meeting at 10:00 a.m. has been rescheduled and will be held at a later date. The next scheduled opportunity for the public to attend will be on April 6 at 6:00 p.m. at the Macon Mall, in the meeting space near the Board of Elections.
“This meeting is open to anyone who wants to learn more about how we prepare for disasters or would like to provide input,” added McCord. “We want different points of view and new ideas so we have a complete view of our community. Everyone’s voice should be heard and be part of making our community more prepared for future disasters.”
