Macon-Bibb County is taking a closer look at its sidewalks to make sure they are safe, accessible, and ready for the future.

On Tuesday, the Commission approved an agreement with StreetScan USA, Inc., doing business as CityLogix, to conduct a comprehensive sidewalk analysis across the county.

The project will evaluate the condition of existing sidewalks and identify areas that may need repairs or improvements. It will also include a review for compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), helping ensure sidewalks are accessible for all residents and visitors.

“This work helps us better understand what we have and where we need to go,” said Mayor Lester Miller. “It’s about making our community safer and more accessible for everyone.”

Using advanced technology and mapping tools, StreetScan will create a detailed inventory of sidewalks throughout Macon-Bibb. This data will give the County a clearer picture of current conditions and help guide future planning and investments.

The agreement, totaling $394,167, will be funded through the 2018 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) under the Road Work program.

This is another phase of the Paving the Way initiative, which began by evaluating the nearly 1,100 miles of county-owned paved roads. The worst and most heavily traveled roads were identified to be repaved first. Since the program began in the summer of 2025, nearly 100 miles of road have been repaved, when in previous years, only 7-8 miles were repaved.
