Georgia Lawmakers Pass Bill Doubling Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credits- How that Could Impact Macon

Georgia lawmakers have approved legislation that would significantly expand the state’s historic rehabilitation tax credit program, a key economic development tool credited with transforming vacant buildings into housing, businesses and community spaces across the state.
House Bill 376 passed both chambers of the General Assembly and now heads to the governor’s desk after the House on Monday approved a Senate substitute. If signed into law, the measure would double the statewide annual cap on historic rehabilitation tax credits from $30 million to $60 million through 2029. The law would take effect July 1, 2026.
