On Friday, March 13, the Macon-Bibb County Fire Department recognized 10 firefighters for their hard work, dedication, and commitment to serving the community during a promotion ceremony. You can watch the full ceremony here.

Family members, colleagues, and community leaders gathered at the Macon Mall to celebrate the group as they took the next step in their careers, stepping into new leadership roles that will help strengthen the department and enhance public safety across Macon-Bibb County.

“These promotions represent more than just new titles,” said Fire Chief Shane Edwards. “They reflect years of training, sacrifice, and a deep commitment to protecting our community. Each of these men have earned this opportunity, and we are proud to see them grow into these leadership roles.”

Among those recognized was Carell L. Rembert, Sr., who was appointed Assistant Fire Prevention Director, taking on a key role in helping reduce risk and keep residents safe through education, prevention, and enforcement efforts.

Three firefighters were promoted to the rank of Captain: Mark Basley, Jr., Keith Carter, and Adam R. Michie. In their new roles, they will lead crews on emergency calls and ensure their teams are prepared to respond at a moment’s notice.

Six firefighters were promoted to the rank of Lieutenant: Christopher W. Boling, Matthew C. Fesmire, Matthew Hickey, Michael J. Ingoldsby, Joshua D. Mitchell, and Benjamin D. Widerman. As Lieutenants, they will take on increased responsibility in supervising daily operations and mentoring the next generation of firefighters.

“These men have shown what it means to serve with integrity, professionalism, and heart,” said Mayor Lester Miller. “When we invest in our firefighters and recognize their growth, we are investing in the safety and future of our entire community.”

The promotions highlight Macon-Bibb County’s continued commitment to strengthening its Fire Department by developing leaders from within, ensuring that residents are protected by a highly trained and dedicated team.
