Demolition Of Old Bloomfield Center Marks End Of Era For Macon Community

Heavy machinery tore through the former Bloomfield Recreation Center Tuesday, marking the second day of demolition for a building that has sat vacant for more than six years.

The center, which opened in the 1970s, closed in 2020 when Macon-Bibb County relocated recreation programs to a new $4.4 million facility nearby. Since then, vandals stripped the old building of wire, piping and HVAC systems.
