Community members of Mount de Sales Academy, a Catholic private school located in Macon, Georgia, are planning to mark a historic milestone as the school celebrates 150 years of excellence in faith, character and education.

The 150th Founder’s Day Celebration is planned to take place Saturday, February 28, 2026, at the Mount de Sales downtown campus.

“Cavaliers make history,” said Mount de Sales President Brendan O’Kane. “We celebrate our sesquicentennial to honor who we are and where we are headed. We root ourselves in our Catholic identity and remain open to all families who value a supportive, faith-based environment, and excellence without pretense.”

O’Kane said he hopes this event will bring together generations of Cavaliers and community members who have been impacted by the school throughout its lifetime.

“Our presence is a testimony to the unwavering dedication of the Sisters of Mercy and the countless individuals who have committed their lives to providing the highest quality education for our youth. We are committed to the Macon community, and we take pride in our alumni who lead the way and make a difference both locally and across the wider world. As we honor our cherished tradition and celebrate this historic moment, we do so with renewed hope and commit ourselves to a bright future. Join us!”

The evening will honor the Academy’s legacy of forming students of faith, character and academic excellence since its founding in 1876 by the Sisters of Mercy. The celebration will plan to showcase interactive historical exhibits, student ministry displays, and alumni-curated arts and athletics presentations, each reflecting the spirit of Mercy that has guided the Academy since its founding.

The volunteer planning committee is composed of Mount de Sales alumni, current and past families, and current and past staff.

“It’s an honor to be a part of the 150 years of celebration of Mount de Sales,” said Betsy Griffith class of ‘97, chair of the MDS 150th Celebration Committee. “This school has prepared me for life’s challenges and successes, and I’m grateful to have my children continue our legacy at Mount de Sales.”
