Help Shape the Future of Macon-Bibb County: Comprehensive Plan “Opening Night” Set for January 22nd
Monday, January 12th, 2026
We’re Macon It Happen! The Macon-Bibb County Planning & Zoning Commission (MBPZ) invites community members to help launch the county’s next Comprehensive Plan at an “Opening Night” event on Thursday, January 22, 2026.
The event will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the MBPZ conference room at Macon Mall (3661 Eisenhower Parkway). Attendees can expect a brief overview of the Comprehensive Plan and planning process, followed by interactive, hands-on activities designed to gather initial community input. MBPZ staff and the consultant team will be available throughout the evening to answer questions, discuss ideas, and collect feedback. Activities will also be offered for the community’s “Junior Planners,” ensuring that youth voices are included in shaping the county’s future.
“This is our community’s big-picture plan for the future — how we want to grow, get around, and keep Macon-Bibb County a great place to live, work, and visit,” said Gregory Brown, Planning Director for MBPZ. “The Comprehensive Plan process is a chance for everyone to share ideas and help shape what comes next. Public participation is essential to creating a plan that truly reflects the community’s needs and aspirations.”
The Comprehensive Plan is an official policy document used by local governments to guide growth and development. It establishes a long-term vision for the next 20–30 years and is updated every five years. Maintaining an up-to-date Comprehensive Plan is also required to retain Qualified Local Government (QLG) status, which makes local governments eligible for various state and federal funding opportunities, permits, and incentive programs. The Macon It Happen Comprehensive Plan is anticipated to be adopted in October 2027.
