U.S. Park Service Opposes Plan to Expand Ocmulgee Mounds, Creating Georgia's First National Park

A National Park Service official told a Senate committee Tuesday that the agency opposes a bill to turn Macon’s Ocmulgee Mounds into a national park.
Mike Caldwell, an associate director with the Park Service, said the agency wants to use its resources to maintain existing national parks rather than expand. He spoke during an 80-minute hearing before the Senate’s National Parks Subcommittee.
