“I want to express my sincere appreciation for the opportunity to serve Historic Macon,” Lott said. “I am proud of what we have accomplished during my tenure. I'm glad to know I will leave the organization with a dedicated team capable of executing its mission and a clear strategic plan for the years ahead.”

Pat Muse, Historic Macon’s board chair, thanked Lott on behalf of the trustees and the entire membership “for his hard work and dedication to furthering Historic Macon’s mission” to preserve architecture and share history.

“We wish Nathan and his family well in his future endeavors,” he said.

Muse said the search for a new executive director will begin immediately.

“Given the strong pool of talent in the Macon community, we plan to begin the search locally. Ideally, we hope to identify someone for the position who is already familiar with the exciting growth happening in Macon and Historic Macon Foundation’s involvement in that process.”

Muse also announced that Vickie Hertwig will serve as interim executive director during the search process. Hertwig, a retired attorney and current board member, has been involved with Historic Macon for more than 20 years in a variety of capacities.

She is a past board chair and has served as secretary and as chair of different committees, as well as multiple Historic Macon flea markets. Hertwig also has helped the organization with tax-credit research and prepared and submitted nominations to the National Trust for Historic Preservation on behalf of the organization for both the Ingleside and Napier Heights historic districts.

She also served as Historic Macon’s interim executive director in 2008.
