The National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (NAMIC) has named Sen. John F. Kennedy (R–Macon) its 2025 State Legislator of the Year. The award recognizes a state lawmaker for their support of free-market principles and strong advocacy to improve the state's insurance market.

“I’m proud and humbled to be recognized by NAMIC, an organization whose insight helped bring this fight across the finish line,” said Sen. Kennedy. “Communities across Georgia have suffered the consequences of excessive litigation and nuclear verdicts for too long. That is why I’ve worked closely with business owners, healthcare providers and hardworking Georgians to better balance our civil justice system and stabilize litigation costs. I will keep working to maintain a strong business environment in our state and prevent chaos from pervading our legal climate.”

During the 2025 Legislative Session, Sen. Kennedy advanced Senate Bills 68 and 69 to support small businesses, promote economic growth and ensure greater fairness in the courtroom. Senate Bill 68 included broad tort reform measures aimed at dissuading frivolous lawsuits, while SB 69introduced greater oversight for litigation financiers by requiring them to register with the state. Both bills were signed into law by Governor Brian Kemp, with SB 68 already in effect and SB 69 taking effect on January 1, 2026.
