Macon-Bibb County will introduce a new $3 per night occupation tax on hotels, short-term rentals and similar lodging beginning in January 2026, a move officials say will generate millions for tourism-related projects without dipping into other local taxes.

“This is a tax that’s not put on citizens of Macon-Bibb County, because traditionally they don’t stay at hotels," Mayor Lester Miller said.
