Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Thursday, September 11th, 2025

The Macon Arts Alliance will honor the legacy of community leader Albert Billingslea and celebrate the artistic vision of Atlanta-based artist Fabian Williams at a special ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, September 12, at 10:30 AM. The ceremony will take place at 840 Forsyth Street in downtown Macon.

The mural, created by visual and performance artist Fabian Williams, pays tribute to Albert Billingslea, who had a distinguished career as both a successful businessman and dedicated public servant. Billingslea served for many years as a Bibb County Commissioner before his passing in 2011 at age 82. The mural was made possible by a generous donation from Adams Law Firm.

"I like highlighting people that have lived noble lives," said Williams of his tribute to Billingslea. The Atlanta-based artist is known for creating art that celebrates Black culture and community leaders who have made lasting impacts on their communities.

The ceremony will recognize both Williams for his artistic contribution and the Billingslea family for their patriarch's enduring legacy of community service and leadership.

Macon's growing collection of public murals has become a defining feature of the city's downtown area, attracting visitors and fostering community pride. The Billingslea mural was created as part of the 2024 Macon Mural Festival, presented by Macon Arts Alliance. Friday's ceremony will mark the official opening of the 2025 Macon Mural Festival, which celebrates Macon's vibrant public art scene. This year's festival will feature four new mural projects to be completed over the weekend, continuing the organization's mission to enhance the city's cultural landscape through public art.
