Macon Arts Alliance to Dedicate Memorial Pavilion Honoring Downtown Champion Steven Fulbright

Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Wednesday, August 20th, 2025

Macon Arts Alliance will dedicate the Steven Fulbright Memorial Pavilion at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at the Mill Hill Community Arts Center, 213 Clinton Street, Macon, GA 31217. The dedication ceremony will take place on what would have been Fulbright's birthday, bringing together family and friends as well as the community he served so passionately.

The pavilion's construction was made possible through generous support from the E.J. Grassmann Trust, AARP, Downtown Challenge 2.0 (a project of the Community Foundation of Central Georgia), along with individual and corporate donations made in Fulbright's memory.

"This pavilion has been a labor of love by many people," said Julie Wilkerson, Executive Director of Macon Arts Alliance. "Steven loved a gathering, and we are delighted to dedicate the pavilion on his birthday, bringing people together in celebration and remembrance."

Fulbright was a cornerstone of downtown Macon's cultural and economic development. Throughout his career, he contributed to the vibrancy of our community through roles at local institutions, including the Hay House, the Georgia Music Hall of Fame, and as Main Street Manager for Macon-Bibb County. Most recently, he served as Vice President of Sales and Service at Visit Macon.

Beyond his professional contributions, Fulbright was a dedicated volunteer who helped shape Macon's cultural landscape. He served in leadership positions with Macon Arts Alliance, the College Hill Corridor Commission, the Macon Film Festival, and Historic Macon Foundation. He also served on the boards of the Cherry Blossom Festival, the Macon Beer Festival, the Historic Heartland Travel Region, and the Southeast Tourism Society.

In recognition of his outstanding contributions to Macon's arts community, Fulbright received a Macon Arts Alliance Cultural Award in 2019.

The pavilion will serve as a lasting tribute to Fulbright's dedication to community and strengthening the cultural fabric of downtown Macon.
