Monroe County Commissioners Reject $6 Billion Data Center Proposal

After months of heated town halls, packed public meetings, and growing community opposition, Monroe County commissioners unanimously voted Monday night to reject a proposal to rezone land for a $6 billion data center.

The decision followed a recommendation from the county’s Planning and Zoning Board last week to deny the rezoning request, which would have cleared the way for the Bolingbroke Technology Campus a massive 900-acre development off I-75. The proposal included nine large buildings, promised hundreds of construction jobs, and projected up to $60 million annually in tax revenue.
