Get Involved with Open Streets!

Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Friday, August 15th, 2025

Open Streets Macon is back and ready to transform our streets into a car-free public space for walking, biking, and play. As part of its 10th-anniversary celebration, Bike Walk Macon invites the community to experience a more active and connected city by joining this popular program. Streets will be closed to motorized traffic, allowing everyone to freely walk, bike, skate, and explore neighborhoods. This free, family-friendly event is a celebration of what's possible when we reimagine our public spaces.

We need volunteers and activity partners to help make this year's Open Streets a success. Here are the dates and locations:

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 28, 2025  |  2 - 6 PM

SUNDAY, DECEMBER 7, 2025  |  2 - 5 PM

Houston Avenue (Newberg Avenue to Rocky Creek Road)

Since 2016, Open Streets Macon has encouraged thousands of people to reimagine how we use public spaces - not just for cars, but for creativity, wellness, and togetherness. These free, community-centered initiatives are a core part of Bike Walk Macon’s 10-year mission to make walking and biking a safe, healthy, and convenient option for everyone.

Here’s how you can get involved!

  • Host an Activity: We’re looking for activity partners to host free, engaging activities along the routes. From fitness classes and dance performances to story time and sidewalk chalk art, your activity can help bring our streets to life! This is a great way to showcase your organization and get people excited about what you do.

  • Join the Volunteer Team: We need dozens of volunteers to help with everything from setup, watching intersections, collecting feedback, and more. Volunteering is a rewarding way to meet new people, contribute to a positive community program, and help us ensure a safe and fun experience for everyone.
