A Raisin In The Sun
This inaugural Signature Playwright Series shines a spotlight & celebrates theatrical works written, directed, & produced by Black/African American playwrights.
[Directed by Cris Scott] "A Raisin in the Sun", a classic play by Lorraine Hansbury that debuted on Broadway in 1959, takes place in the late ‘50s in a south side Chicago apartment, chronicling the lives of the members of an African-American family. Matriarch Lena plans to buy a home in an all-white neighborhood when she receives a hefty insurance check. Her son Walter dreams of buying a liquor store and being his own man, and her daughter Beneatha dreams of attending medical school. The tensions and prejudice they face create the drama in this beloved play.
From the STAGE-to-the-SOUL…(3) plays, (3) directors, & (3) chances to see (3) award-winning shows that speak to the Heart of the American Dream:
SEP 11-13: A RAISIN IN THE SUN
DEC 20-21: DAUGHTERS OF THE KING, THE MUSICAL
