Planning and Zoning Commission Conducting Housing Study, Public Input Needed

Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Thursday, June 26th, 2025

On Tuesday, June 24, the Planning and Zoning Commission, in association with RKG
Associates, Inc., will conduct a 2050 Housing Assessment and Forecast Study for Macon-
Bibb County. The meeting is virtual and will begin at 5:30 p.m. and people can register here.

“The housing study will be instrumental in assisting the planning commission in making informed housing decisions that best reflect the demographics of current and future citizens of Macon,” says Planning and Zoning Executive Director Jeff Ruggieri. “The Housing study will provide a holistic view of growth and housing issues countywide.”

A critical component of the study is to actively involve community members throughout the housing study’s process. The study will answer questions such as, ‘How much housing do we need to meet anticipated growth? ‘Where should that housing be? Who is being served? And what types of housing are most in need? The plan will also identify key redevelopment opportunities and policy recommendations to incentivize redevelopment countywide.
