Girls Dig Deeper Initiative Feeds More Than 100 Families

On Saturday, June 21, the Girls Dig Deeper Initiative (GDDI) held a food distribution at the Bloomfield-Gilead Recreation Center where they were able to feed 110 families.
“I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to provide this opportunity for many families in Macon-Bibb,” said GDDI Founder Najiva Timothee. “People were so grateful for the food we provided. Food insecurity and lack of access to meals can significantly contribute to increased crime in communities, especially during the summer months.”
GDDI was able to make this happen through support from the Middle Georgia Community Food Bank, which supplied canned fruit, vegetables, beans, soup, crackers, and more.
“Our partner agencies really are the lifeblood of our system of getting food assistance to neighbors who need help because they’re the ones who get large quantities of food from us at the warehouse and then distribute it directly to individuals and families who need it,” said Middle Georgia Community Food Bank President and CEO.
Boys with the Ambitious Young Men Program helped with the distribution.
GDDI is planning on holding another food distribution on Saturday, July 12 at Bloomfield-Gilead Recreation Center (1931 Rocky Creek Road). The time is to be determined.
GDDI, through MVP, has offered the Dig Deep Series for teen girls, a mentorship program for girls, money management classes, community wellness and leadership events, teen mental health & conflict resolution seminars, and more. Between 2022 and 2024, GDDI received $30,000 in grant funding from (MVP) through the Community Foundation of Central Georgia. Also in 2024, Georgia Power granted them $2,167 for their Spring Break camp.
