EMA To Host Weather Radio Giveaway At Macon Mall
Monday, June 9th, 2025
The Macon-Bibb County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) will hold another NOAA weather radio and pillow shaker/strobe light distribution event on Wednesday, June 11, as part of its ongoing effort to ensure people in Macon-Bibb County have multiple ways to get severe weather alerts. The event will take place at the Macon Mall Conference Room (3661 Eisenhower Parkway – lower level, next to the Board of Elections Office) from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m.
This giveaway is only for Macon-Bibb County residents. Proof of residence is required and only ONE radio will be given out per person with ID on a first come, first serve basis.
“We are so excited to offer this third round of free weather radios,” says EMA Director Spencer Hawkins. “Having a weather radio in your home or where you work will help you get immediate notifications on dangerous weather situations. This along with our MBCAlert system will ensure that you know what is happening and what you can do to stay safe.”
The last distribution event was held in April, where 1,500 radios and pillow shakers were given out. In the last year, EMA has given a total 3,000 radios and pillow shakers to Macon-Bibb County residents.
Those who were given vouchers at the last giveaway will be able to move to the front of the line during the event, however, a voucher does not guarantee a radio.
People can sign up for MBCAlert by going to www.maconbibb.us/mbcalert or getting the free mobile app, and people are encouraged to follow the Agency on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Hawkins also wants to stress to people that follow local media and weather forecasters on their social media channels to make sure they get as much information as possible about emergencies and severe weather.
